Winners of the Schwab Holocaust Essay contest will read their essays.

Felicia Berkowitz, a child of Holocaust survivors, will recount the Holocaust experiences of her father, Edward “Lolek” Gastfriend.


Reading of Names

“Unto Every Person There is a Name” seeks to dignify the memories of victims of the Shoah, the Nazi Holocaust, by reading their names aloud. A vigil in which the names of those who perished will be read continuously over a period of 24 hours.

Holocaust Remembrance Service (Yom HaShoah)

Monday, April 24, 7:00pm
First Lutheran Church - Corner of East High and South Bedford Streets (GPS – 100 East High Street Carlisle, PA)

Guest speaker will be long time Carlisle resident and retired businessman Harold Swidler, who experienced the Holocaust. Lori Elliott will perform musical interludes on flute. Congregations might wish to bring a Sunday school class or youth group to the service. Light refreshments will follow the service.
