Statement in Response to Events of 1/6/21 in Washington D.C.

The Jewish Federation of Greater Harrisburg and the Jewish Community Relations Council of Harrisburg condemn the undemocratic actions at the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, 2021. This attempt to prevent a smooth transition of power was rooted in extremism and displayed symbols of hate and anti-Semitism. As Americans, we hold our democratic systems and values dear, and the unlawful occupation and destruction was an assault on every citizen.

As an organization grounded in the Jewish values of tzedakah (justice/charity), chessed (acts of loving kindness), areivut (mutual responsibility), and tikkun olam (repairing the world), we are committed to working together and with our neighbors to promote understanding and tolerance. Let us move forward peacefully as one community in pursuit of these principles.
