Frequently Asked Questions - Reopening

We deeply appreciate your patience and assistance in the reopening of the JCC building. We plan to re-open our fitness center for limited hours beginning on July 6th. The information below is reviewed often and may be adjusted accordingly. Please check back frequently to see if any of our procedures have changed. We thank you for your flexibility and understanding as we work diligently to keep our facilities as safe as possible for the community.

Update 8/21: Beginning Saturday, August 22nd, the basketball court will be open to members to shoot around.  Members must sign up to reserve a section of the gym.  Only members from the same family that live together may be at the basket together.  All people must be masked at all times. Use our sign-up form to reserve a time!

  • Masks must fully cover the mouth and nose and be worn at all times
  • No more than two players at a time
  • Each player should have their own ball and only pick up their own ball
  • All efforts should be made to socially distance; no handshakes or direct contact

For Locker Room use, please observe the following guidelines:

  • Masks must be worn at all times except while showering.
  • Please remain 6 feet apart from other individuals.
  • Please limit your time and conversation in the locker room.

Update 7/14: Per the PA Department of Health, individuals visiting any of the following states will be required to quarantine for two weeks upon returning home:

Alabama | Arizona | Arkansas | California | Florida | Georgia | Idaho | Iowa | Kansas | Louisiana | Mississippi  | Missouri | Nevada | North Carolina | Oklahoma | South Carolina | Tennessee | Texas | Utah | Wyoming

UPDATE 7/6/2020 - Face masks are now required to be worn by all individuals, including those working out in our fitness center, at all times, as per the Order of the Secretary of the PA Department of Health requiring Universal Face Coverings.

What do I need to do before entering the JCC?

For the health and safety of our members, all participants must complete this
waiver before entering the facility.  You will only need to complete the form on your initial visit back to the JCC.

What new safety procedures are in place for entering the JCC?

All exercise-related visits will need to be scheduled using our online forms for the fitness center and indoor pool. Capacity is limited and no walk-ins will be permitted.

Each time you enter the facility, you will need to have your temperature taken and answer a series of health questions.  If you have a fever of over 100 degrees or you appear to be ill, you will not be admitted into the building and will not be permitted to return or make reservations for at least three days.  We need your assistance keeping everyone healthy. If you have a fever, please do not endanger fellow members by taking a fever reducing medication to relieve this symptom.

Do I need to wear a mask in the building?

All individuals will be required to wear masks at all times while visiting the JCC. All employees will wear masks when in common areas of the JCC.

Who is permitted in the JCC? Can I bring guests or kids?

Only members are permitted -- No guests are allowed in the JCC at this time. No children under 14 will be allowed to enter the fitness center or pool (unless during a family swim block).

Should I quarantine before visiting the JCC?

Anybody who has been in close contact with someone with COVID-19 or, per the PA Department of Health, has visited any of the following states, should quarantine for two weeks prior to returning to the JCC:

Alabama | Arizona | Arkansas | California | Delaware | Florida | Georgia | Idaho | Iowa | Kansas  | Louisiana | Mississippi | Nevada | North Carolina | Oklahoma | South Carolina | Tennessee | Texas | Utah

What is being done to promote a clean and safe environment inside the JCC?

We have the following sanitation procedures in place at this time:

  • The building (including the HVAC system) has been sanitized and is being maintained on a daily basis.
  • A touchless sink (using a foot pedal) has been installed outside the main entrance through mid-August for your use before entering and after exiting the JCC.
  • Fitness staff will be cleaning machines and equipment on an ongoing basis.
  • Members will be required to clean machines and equipment before and after each use.
  • Staff will be wearing masks at all times in common areas.
  • Hand sanitizer is available throughout the building and we encourage you to use as needed.
  • All members will be asked to wear a mask at all times.
  • Anyone who has or has been in contact with a person with COVID-19 and who has been to the JCC will be asked to let the staff at the JCC know. We will be following Department of Health procedures and will consult our Medical Advisory Team on further procedures.
  • We are asking members to sign up in advance for time at the fitness center or pool so that we employ a reduced capacity.
  • Our cardio equipment will be spaced at a distance and we will utilize social distancing measures throughout the center.
  • If swimming, you must come to the JCC wearing your swimsuit and bring a towel.  You will need to take a quick shower prior to entering the pool. You will not be permitted to use the locker room to store belongings - bring a small bag for your clothing and towel and bring that bag with you to into the pool area. When you leave, you will need to cover yourself with your towel or your dry clothing but may not use the changing room.

Will staff and members be notified if someone who was at the JCC has contracted, or suspects that they have contracted COVID-19, and how will this be handled?

Yes.  We will be transparent in our communications while following the legal guidelines protecting anonymity of those (potentially) infected. We will follow Pennsylvania Department of Health protocols for notification, cleaning, closures, and reopening. If you suspect you have contracted COVID-19 and have been at the JCC within the previous 72 hours, please notify Jenn Ross so we can determine with DOH if contact tracing and confidential notification needs to occur.

We are opening in a staggered manner to ensure the health and safety of our members. Check back often for updates on programs as they resume.

How should I enter the JCC campus?

Anyone walking to the JCC must use the Bergner Street entrance between the hours of 7am – 9am and 4pm – 6pm so as not to disrupt arrival and dismissal of the ELC. Otherwise, you may enter the campus as you normally would using either Vaughn or Bergner Streets.
